Still Short of Votes as of Monday Night

Posted in Government and Politics by TeeJaw on Monday, March 15, 2010, 10: 08 PM

Pelosi doesn’t yet have the votes to pass, er excuse me, “Deem” Obamacare, as of Monday night. I have no idea whether she will get the votes, I hate to make predictions, especially about the future.

But they have not had the votes since last Christmas eve. We know that because if at any time in that period the votes had been there the vote would have been called and it would be over. The way they needed to twist themselves into pretzels to try and get the necessary votes is unprecedented and astounding. From the Slaughter House rule to arm twisting, cajoling, threatening, making promises they can’t keep, offering bribes, pleading, crying, etc. and they still don’t have the votes. We all know from our own experience that at some point all arguments and pleadings to get somebody to do something they don’t want to do start to backfire and actually make it less likely that the other person will perform as you desire. I’m just wondering if further efforts by Pelosi the rest of this week might cause her to lose more votes than she gains. I know politicians are from outer space and don’t think or react as normal human beings, but if they ever have a momentary reality check they have to get sick and tired of this at some point.

The next thing might be the union thugs with the baseball bats, but I’m thinking that won’t work either. I hope not.

I’ve got a 9-hour 500 hundred mile drive tomorrow but I’ll be back here by mid-afternoon. Maybe something big will have happened by then.

In the meantime, check this out: Three Reasons Obamacare Isn’t Likely to Pass
