Can A Nation That Elects A Black President Still Be Called Racist?

No. The election of Barack Obama makes nonsense of claims that we are a racist nation.

That’s a big problem for Democrats because Democrats need racism for political reasons. Democrats need Black people to believe that racism is rampant to keep them voting for Democrats because without the over 90% Black vote they have had since 1964 the Democrats could never win another national election. By the way, it is deeply ironic that the Democrats have this hold on the Black population because back in 1964 and 1965 about 80% of Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 while only about 40% of Democrats voted for it. In fact, it was Democrats like Bill Clinton’s hero Senator J. William Fulbright who tried to stop civil rights legislation with filibusters in the Senate. And that’s not to mention segregation, lynchings, Jim Crow, Black Codes, Klu Klux Klan, and Slavery, all of which institutions were created and run by Democrats. But I digress.

The current situation, ironic and weird, is that Democrats own Black people in this country and they need to keep racism alive to keep Black people on the Democrat plantation. That is why the election of Barack Obama could throw Democrats into crisis mode if people, especially Black people, started to get the idea that a country that elects a Black man as President cannot be a racist country. That explains the false accusations of racism and smear tactics the Democrats are leveling at the Tea Party movement. That explains why journalist Kelly O’Donnell went to a Tea Party and ask Tea Party activist Darryl Postell, who is Black, if he has ever felt uncomfortable being there, and why she was stopped in her tracks when he replied, “No, these are my people. Americans.” [As the Powerline blog noted last week the real question is do liberal journalists ever feel stupid?] The Democrats and their butt monkeys in the media do all this for one reason: they’re desperate.

James Taranto has a great column on this subject at The Wall Street Journal’s Opinion Journal page:

Why The Left Needs Racism

He says:

The political left claims to love racial diversity, but it bitterly opposes such diversity on the political right. This is an obvious matter of political self-interest: Since 1964, blacks have voted overwhelmingly Democratic. If Republicans were able to attract black votes, the result would be catastrophic for the Democratic Party. Even in 2008, the Democrats’ best presidential year since ’64, if the black vote had been evenly split between the parties (and holding the nonblack vote constant), Barack Obama would have gotten about 48% of the vote and John McCain would be president.

To keep blacks voting Democratic, it is necessary for the party and its supporters to keep alive the idea that racism is prevalent in America and to portray the Republican Party (as well as independent challengers to the Democrats, such as the tea-party movement) as racist. The election of Barack Obama made nonsense of the idea that America remains a racist country and thereby necessitated an intensifying of attacks on the opposition as racist.
