Helen Thomas Is Not An Anomaly

Posted in Culture Rot, Government and Politics by TeeJaw on Saturday, June 5, 2010, 9: 32 AM

If the grotesque Helen Thomas were an anomaly in the old media she would have been sent packing long ago. I predict even her latest display of idiocy, bigotry and anti-semitism will not force her out of the White House Press Corps, where she has been a fountain of colossal ignorance for at least a hundred years it seems. Her colleagues are more cautious when speaking in public but not that far different ideologically. That they are not seriously embarrassed to be associated with her testifies to it.

If you haven’t already heard, her latest display of bigotry and ignorance was the comment that “The Jews should get the hell out of Palestine. They should go back home…to Poland and Germany.” It’s all laid bare in the video below.

Here is her apology which as far as I know only appears on her website:

I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.

It’s not sincere. She has been showing her true colors for way too long. If she were not so ignorant she would know that no people in the history of the world have made more valiant efforts to secure peace with any other people than the Israelis have made with the Palestinians. No one is capable of making peace with anyone else who does not want it.

UPDATE:  Some have called for Helen Thomas to be ousted from the White House Press Corp.  William Jacobson says, “Keep Helen Thomas right where she is. And keep her talking. Helen Thomas’ greatest accomplishment as a journalist is to have exposed the true, ugly face of Israel’s critics.”  I agree.

Factoid: Jews have lived in the land of Israel continuously from the time of its original conquest by Joshua more than 3200 years ago until the present day, though Jews were not always in political control of the land, and Jews were not always the majority of the land’s population.

The land of Israel is central to Judaism. A substantial portion of Jewish law is tied to the land of Israel, and can only be performed there. Some rabbis have declared that it is a mitzvah (commandment) to take possession of Israel and to live in it (relying on Num. 33:53). The Talmud indicates that the land itself is so holy that merely walking in it can gain you a place in the World to Come. Prayers for a return to Israel and Jerusalem are included in daily prayers as well as many holiday observances and special events.

Living outside of Israel is viewed as an unnatural state for a Jew. The world outside of Israel is often referred to as “galut,” which is usually translated as “diaspora” (dispersion), but a more literal translation would be “exile” or “captivity.” Observant Jews believe, in varying degrees, that when they live outside of Israel, they are living in exile from their land.

Jews were exiled from the land of Israel by the Romans in 135 C.E., after they defeated the Jews in a three-year war, and Jews did not have any control over the land again until 1948 C.E.

Christians believe that Israel is the land of the Jews, and therefore the land of their biblical heritage. Christians and Jews alike consider the land of Israel as their true home, even if they never plan to live there. For Jews and
Christians alike, a visit to Israel can be the experience of a lifetime.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Helen.

Anti-Semitism on the left has reached a fever pitch. This is not surprising when you consider that liberals are basically fascists, as illustrated handsomely in the book “Liberal Fascism” by Jonah Goldberg. Nazis were in fact socialists first; they were national socialists as contrasted with international socialists (communists.) And lest we forget, the commies didn’t treat the Jews so well either. Thomas may be senile, but she’s just expressing what most lefties and liberals think anyway but usually don’t say in public. Why is Israel the only nation that is not allowed to defend itself? Why are Palestinians considered victims in this game? We report, you decide.
