Raising The Debt Limit

Posted in Government and Politics by TeeJaw on Friday, June 3, 2011, 9: 49 AM

The Republicans stuck together and rejected Obama’s plea to raise the debt limit.  More than 80 Democrats in the House broke ranks and joined the House Republicans.  That included Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer.  (Something is up with that but I haven’t a clue) Obama went down to defeat 318-83 or some such astounding number.  Great achievement for Republicans.  Finally, they held together on something of vital importance to the country.

The fight is far from over and Republicans say they won’t vote to raise the debt limit unless the Bill also contains “meaningful” spending cuts.  “Meaningful” is so overused it’s no longer meaningful.

But here’s what I don’t get.  If they can get “meaningful” spending cuts, why does the debt ceiling need to be raised?

Just asking.
