Quote of the Day

Posted in Government and Politics by TeeJaw on Sunday, June 19, 2011, 10: 36 PM

These are quotes for any day…

Texas Governor Rick Perry to a friendly crowd in New Orleans,

Stop apologizing [for trying to overturn] the entitlement mindset. Stand up and be counted. Our opponents on the left are never going to like us, so let’s stop trying to curry favor with them.

Roger Kimball on that advice from Governor Perry:

We do not yet know whether Rick Perry will be running for president. I hope he does. He would inject a few red corpuscles into the mix. And his acknowledgment that it is pointless, indeed counterproductive, for conservatives to cater to liberals accords with Dr. Kimball’s first rule of political strategy:

Conservatives do not win elections by pretending to be liberals.

It is a curious fact, well worth pondering, that the converse is not true: conservatives do not win elections by pretending to be liberals, but liberals often win elections by pretending to be conservatives.

Texas Governor Rick Perry seems to have turned around and improved the economy of Texas but what would he propose to do to handle unemployment, a bad economy and a hugely expensive health care program that hugely benefits pharmaceutical companies while crippling the average American with totally unaffordable healthcare costs? Liberal spending legislation is poised to bankrupt the states and Federal government much sooner than anyone wants to believe is possible. If this legislation cannot be repealed, how can the economy be turned around? It would be good to hear what Governor Perry has in mind concerning these issues.

I think Rick Perry understands that government cannot create jobs except for government jobs which drain wealth out of the private sector instead of creating new wealth. While government cannot create private sector jobs, it damn sure can destroy them. That is what the Obama administration has done and is doing. So the first thing any true conservative like Perry would do is stop killing jobs by getting rid of unnecessary and burdensome regulations and high taxes. In other words, doing on a national basis the same thing that has worked so well in Texas. Get government out of the way, reduce uncertainty about future investment, and let the private sector do what it does best — expand, invest and hire.

How can Obamacare, Dodd Frank, of other idiotic and job killing legislation be repealed? Simple, get a Republican president, a Republican Senate, and keep the House Republican. If Democrats control any branch of government repeal is not possible. If not repealed these awful laws will continue to rob Americans of their precious liberty and sink the country deeper into stagnation, possibly extended recession or even depression.
