As Obama Goes, So Goes About 15% of Americans

Norman Podhoretz, one of America’s premier thinkers and writers, wrote a piece in the Wall Street Journal, What Happened To Obama?, in which he says Obama has an “unshakable strategic objective” to turn the United States into a European-style socialist welfare state while diminishing the leading role it has played in the world since the end of World War II. Podhoretz took Obama at his word when he said, “in a rare moment of candor” just before the 2008 election:  “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”

A new Rasmussen poll is devastating to Obama’s goal of transforming America into a European socialism, just when Europeans themselves are waking up to the fact that their utopian socialist dreams are leading them into a social and economic disaster. Only 15% of America’s believe the country is heading in the right direction. A full 80% say the country is on the wrong track.

Even absolute dictators cannot take their country in a direction that 80% of their people oppose. American democracy may be in sick bay at the moment but it’s not so far gone that Obama can continue to rule against that 80% for much longer.

Gallup piles on with this bit of bad news for the the messiah and his disciples:

Oh well, it’s only a 45% gap between disapprove and approve. Does he think he can close that gap between now and November, 2012? He’s going to keep doing exactly what he is doing now which is what created the gap, so how would that reverse it? It won’t. The economy will not fundamentally improve as long as Obama is in the White House. If ever there is to be real hope and change it will be after Mr. Obama loses the next election.
